Keys to Empathy
Well I spoke to the king of Empathy
and asked him for his key.
'How do you rule?
How do you do it?
How do you live it, this crazy thing?'.
"I simply think..." He replied
handing me keys to a 3rd of the land
"...we're different and similar,
even so, we shed the same tears
although for some it spills less.
We have the same joy,
although may shine less here than there.
We lie the same lies. breathe the same air.
bleed the same blood.
only more or less."
Well I spoke to the queen of Empathy
and asked her for her key.
'How do you rule?
How do you do it?
How do you live it, this crazy thing?'.
"I simply feel..." She replied
handing me keys to a 3rd of the land
"...we're different and similar,
even so, I cry with my people,
I laugh with them anywhere
I feel every lie, every truth, every breath
I bleed with my people
only more or less."
Well I spoke to the children of Empathy
and asked them for their key.
'How do you rule?
How do you do it?
How do you live it, this crazy thing?'.
"We simply listen."
That was it.
I was granted every key to the land
for today.
Hardest thing I've ever done:
to live life in Empathy
but it is still right
It's gotta be
or this kingdom I'm in
is no more than imagined.

Background Information: I took an awesome communications class and we talked about empathy. My take-away was that empathy lives in how we think, feel, but above all, listen. The very last verse is a double entendre. One way, it refers to the fact that this world of "Empathy" is imagined but I wish it to be more. I wish it to be our world. The alternate interpretation is that I should live in empathy not only in my imagination but in my real life.
